Personal Blender vs. Countertop Blender: Which one is better?

Which type of blender is right for you? We tested a budget countertop blender as well as a personal blender. We won’t waste your time. Here’s the scoop:

At a Glance:

I’m somewhat of a blending aficionado. I love a smoothie in the morning, a blended soup base for lunch, and a smooth sauce for dinner. What I don’t love is making a huge mess in my kitchen. This is where a personal blender comes in.

Through our home kitchen testing, we have decided that personal blenders are the best option for those who are not ready to invest in a 500 dollar machine.

Let’s let these blenders go head to head and see how they stack up.

Countertop vs. Personal Blenders: The Rundown

Countertop Blenders

Large Capacity

Countertop blenders are meant for large quantities of ingredients. However, if you opt for a cheaper countertop blender, then you may find yourself disappointed with the amount of food it can actually blend.

I have found that when using my countertop blender, I often have to add way more liquid than I wanted to if I am blending a large amount of ingredients. And sometimes, that doesn’t even cut it, and I end up taking some of the bulk out and blending in batches.

Glass Pitcher

This is easily the biggest leg up that the countertop blender has over the personal blender. The glass pitcher is great for blending hot things, like soups and sauces. So whenever I opt for my other blending options, I usually wait for my soup/sauce to cool a bit before putting it in the plastic container. So, if you are regularly blending hot things, it may be something to think about.

Base Comes Apart

The Black & Decker personal blender that we have tested has a base that comes apart, so cleaning the blender is fairly simple, however, you will have a bunch of components to keep track of. The other downside it that the pitcher, itself, is pretty large, and I find this typically makes me reach for other options.

Personal Blenders

Everyone has seen the classic countertop blenders that can hold an army’s worth of blended goodness in them. But let me introduce you to… the personal blender. It is the countertop blender’s fun little sister, with the same spunk in half the size.

Small in size

Personal blenders are at least half the size of countertop blenders, making them easy to store, easy to wash, and lightweight, so you’re not lugging around a giant machine every time you want to use it. I keep mine on my open shelving and it looks cute, and takes up almost no space.

No-Mess and Easy to Clean

Due to their construction, these blenders don’t make a mess. The keep their components neatly inside the blender at all times. Some countertop blenders can spray food out the top, but these are sealed shut, so there is no chance of that happening.

These blenders are also extremely easy to clean. All you do is rinse, add some warm water and soap and blend again! Then rinse and you’re good to go. And don’t worry about drying space, since these suckers are so small.

Great Whirlpool Action

Last, and certainly not least, these blenders blend better than many countertop blenders I have tried. They immediately get that coveted whirlpool going, and blend things in 10-15 seconds. I can’t count how many times I have stood in my kitchen trying to get my countertop blender to actually blend, but this has never happened to me with my personal blender.

SpatulaMart Verdict

This one is an easy choice for me. Personal blenders are far superior to budget countertop blenders due to their size, ease, and better blending power. If you are not ready to take the plunge and buy a Vitamix, then these are a great alternative.

Which blender should you buy?

There are lots of options out there for both countertop and personal blenders, so what do we think of ours?

Black & Decker Countertop Blender

This blender just fails to wow me. As I have already said, I routinely choose my personal blender over this one for the reasons stated above.

Starfrit Personal Blender

This personal blender has surprised me in the best way. I didn’t know what to expect from a brand I hadn’t heard of before, but I use this blender more than once a week, and I expect I will use it for a long time.

Final Thoughts

We at SpatulaMart would highly recommend purchasing a personal blender, if you have never tried one. We are pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.
